Quarterly Updates
March 2008
Hello Tucson Moms!
Well, it’s finally here…spring! I think the cold has left us for good and now is the time to enjoy the beautiful weather and all the wonderful activities Tucson has to enjoy!
There is so much happening with Tucson Moms. First, within the next few months, look for our new webpage! We are currently working on making our site more user friendly and we are making easier for you to find the important information you need (such as playgroup calendars and volunteer opportunities).
We’re also been adding more playgroups. We now have a playgroup in Catalina and we are working on getting playgroups in the Vail/Sahuarita area and SW Tucson. Many playgroup leader opportunities await you!
Melissa and I are finally getting the knack of things! We successfully lead our first board meeting in February and voted on our new board members. We’re also working hard to have fun Moms Night Outs (our next being March 26) and family events.
So enjoy this wonderful weather we’re having and we’ll do the rest!

Also coming from the Social Committee are two great family events! One is the Family Picnic & Fall Festival! This will be an afternoon filled with lots of activities and food. It is scheduled for late October/early November. More details about this event will be coming in your September newsletter. In January, we will have an End of Year Bash to celebrate the great year we had! We are still looking for someone to plan this event, so if you are interested, please let us know.
The Community Involvement Committee will be working on the Annual Holiday Giving Event (see the Fundraising tab to see how you can help and get some great books for the children in your life!) as the holidays get closer.
The Newsletter Committee has been working extremely hard to get out a quality newsletter each month, and many months have even had so much content that our 10 pages have had to expand to 12 just to fit it all!
The Outreach Committee continues to stock doctor’s offices, children’s stores, hospitals and more with brochures. They do a great job getting the word about Tucson Moms out! They are looking for a Committee Chair to help keep it all organized. Please let us know if you are interested.
After three years of fundraising and dreaming, the Kenya Get Wet water spray project at Reid Park Zoo was finally completed in the late spring! It was so exciting to see it being built and know that Tucson Moms played such a big role in its existence. Previous Director, Louise Sternberg, had the idea and presented it to Tucson Moms who then raised $20,000 to donate to the project! We hope many of you have had a chance to stop by and enjoy it!
New playgroups have been forming all over town – and not just for the 2007 babies. Check out the Playgroup Descriptions page for more information on all of our playgroups. Who knows, you may find another group to join and make even more friends!
Keep your eye out for more updates as our committee volunteers are working tirelessly to get events rolling as the holidays approach.
Thank you and have a great pre-holiday season!
