Dear Members,
Part of the Tucson Moms mission is to be a source of support and friendship for Moms. Our weekly playgroups are the main
occasion for us and our children to be together, form friendships, and talk about our experiences as Moms. In order to
help playgroups run smoothly, and to help ensure all members and their children have a positive playgroup experience, we
have established what we think are "Common Sense Member Guidelines". These guidelines are based on what we have heard are
some of the main concerns of members in regards to playgroups, and some issues that have arisen in the past. We'd like to
stress that these problems have been few and far between, but felt having something in writing would help us all know what
to expect of each other as our membership grows. If you have any questions about theses guidelines, please contact us at
tucsonmoms@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Nikki Sharp and Melissa Henshaw
Tucson Moms Member Guidelines
Please do not bring your child to playgroup if you suspect he/she might be ill, or if you are ill yourself. If you or your child are exhibiting any of the following symptoms, or are recently recovering, please refrain from attending playgroup that week: vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye, thick nasal discharge, or fever. This is not an exhaustive list, and we ask you use your best judgment to decide if you or your child might have a communicable illness.
Children have bad days too, but hitting, biting, pushing, or other play that may injure another child cannot be allowed. If your child is having a particularly bad day, you may consider removing the child from the play area for a short time, or even leaving early and rejoining playgroup the following week. Although we all understand children go through phases, or that they will sometimes behave poorly, recurrent violent actions (such as biting) are not acceptable. If your child is going through one of these phases, you may need to refrain from playgroup for a few weeks until the phase ends. Please watch your child carefully at playgroup to help avoid these occurrences.
An important part of the Tucson Moms mission is to support one another as Moms. With that in mind, damaging or derogatory remarks or actions directed towards fellow members that adversely affect the operation of a playgroup are not acceptable.
Some additional "common sense" guidelines
- If you are a guest in someone's home, please respect the rules of her/his home.
- Encourage your child to help clean up after a playgroup meeting at someone's house.
- Please RSVP when requested! Playgroup leaders work hard to plan fun activities for you and your child(ren), and knowing how many people to plan for makes that job a lot easier.
- Each member is responsible for the safety of their own children.
If a problem arises:
Respectful communication between members to resolve a situation should be the first step taken. Playgroup leaders are available to speak with in confidence, as are the Directors. Board involvement occurs in extreme situations when all attempts by members/playgroups to find a solution have been made with no success.
